SYIF investment manager speaks at national conference

Published: 28th November 2005

SYIF's Paul Gower, speaking at the 'Creative Industries: Benefiting from Growth' conference.

Paul Gower, Investment Manager on the South Yorkshire Investment Fund, recently joined Terence Conran and Tom Bloxham of Urban Splash to champion the role of creativity and creative businesses at a National Conference.

The annual ‘Creative Industries: Benefiting from Growth’ conference took place ahead of the publication of the Cox Review, commissioned by Gordon Brown to identify what Britain needs to do to benefit from design and creativity.

The day, held at the London Design Museum, coincided with a range of initiatives on creativity including a breakfast hosted by Gordon Brown, providing a forum for a range of speakers from across the Creative Industry Sector to come together and to review how innovation in property, creativity, exploitation of technology and finance can encourage growth in the creative business sector.

Speaking at the conference Paul Gower said, "Our creativity is an increasingly important factor for us to be able to compete in this global economy."

The conference picked up on some of the objectives of the Cox Review, including the relationships between businesses and creative professionals and models of best practice.

Conference organiser, Robin Knowles of Civic Regeneration said "Many of the day’s speakers including Terence Conran, Paul Gower and Tom Bloxham offered excellent clues as to how the Cox Review should be taken forward in the pre-budget report. I shall be watching out for Gordon Brown making some exciting announcements next month."
