Pro-SY appoints new Chairman

Published: 13th February 2007

Tony Goulbourn, the Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF), will now lead Pro-South Yorkshire.

A South Yorkshire organisation, promoting professional expertise in the region, has appointed Tony Goulbourn as its new Chairman.

Tony, the Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF), will now lead Pro-South Yorkshire, together with recently appointed Chief Executive, Trevor Kelly and the Board of Directors, drawn from the sector.

Pro-South Yorkshire’s (www.pro-sy.com) key goal is to promote professional services in South Yorkshire and in doing so stimulate more business for the fastest growing sector in the region.   Pro-SY will focus on attracting local businesses in the region, but will also be looking to attract inward investing professional businesses.

Tony said: “I am looking forward to my new role at Pro-SY. A lot of effort has already been put in to develop the organisation and prove the concept and the demand for its services from its customers.  However, the hard work starts now.  The key priorities must be to raise the profile of our excellent professional sector in South Yorkshire, lead the process of increasing membership and driving the future agenda”.

Tony takes over the role from DLA Piper’s Paul Firth who has been chairman for the past three years.

Pro-SY was formed three years, as a pilot project led by SYIF with the support of Business Link South Yorkshire, Renaissance SY and Objective One.  The objective was to test the viability of a self standing cluster group for the business, professional and financial sectors within South Yorkshire.  In addition Pro-SY was intended to provide a forum for the sector to contribute and influence the strategy for the region.

Pro-SY is developing into a significant membership body, intended to make it a truly professional body.  Pro-SY has a core membership target of up to 50 professional firms from the top 100 firms in Sheffield and South Yorkshire. It is also working to create associated memberships with the Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Barnsley Chambers of Commerce that will provide a high penetration of the 1600 firm sector in the region.
