A Barnsley glass company is set to shatter profit expectations after improving its productivity following investment.

Barnsley Glass and Glazing at Zenith Business Park, Barugh Green, has purchased a £265,000 glass toughening plant, which they hope will be in operation by next month (April).

South Yorkshire Investment Fund assisted the company’s acquisition of the furnace with a £30,000 investment.

Barnsley Glass and Glazing, who are a specialist one-stop shop for glass and glazing, will now be able to toughen 90 per cent of its glass in-house instead of out sourcing the work.

Neil Butler, Director at Barnsley Glass and Glazing, said: “The furnace will enable the company to be more efficient and provide an increase in profitability of at least 15 per cent.

“We provide work for people all over the country, from greenhouses to commercial projects, supplying everything from tinted glass to solar efficient panels.”

Barnsley Glass and Glazing has also just secured a two-year contract with North Lincolnshire Council worth £250,000 a year, with the possibility of a further two-year extension.

The deal follows a successful period for the company, which has enjoyed profits almost ever year since it was established 18 years ago.

Neil added: “We have seen a big growth in the last three years and hopefully we can continue this into the foreseeable future.

“We also have plans in place for the company to purchase an automated sealed unit line, which will enable us to produce 1,000 units in a 10-hour shift, improving efficiency and savings.”

Barnsley Glass and Glazing was introduced to SYIF by Geoff Watson, Business Adviser at Business Link South Yorkshire, who has helped the business to grow over the last two years.

Jane Siddle, Investment Manager for South Yorkshire Investment Fund, said: “Barnsley Glass and Glazing has done exceptionally well in an industry which has seen a number of businesses falling by the way side.

“They are manufacturing from the heart of South Yorkshire and using their expertise to benefit companies across the country, while creating employment opportunities for people in this region. The company is showing good potential.”
