SYIF appoint Investment Managing Director
Published: 19th August 2003
Peter Armitage has been appointed as the Investment Managing Director for South Yorkshire Investment Fund.
Based in Rotherham and Sheffield, he will work with SYIF Investment Managers Nigel Feirn and Matthew Male.
Mr Armitage was formerly a partner in the Leeds office of Apax partners – one of the largest venture capitalists in Europe – and Bridgepoint Capital. He is a qualified chartered accountant and has an MBA from Manchester Business School.
He said: "I look forward to my new role helping to develop both existing and new businesses – bringing new jobs and prosperity to the South Yorkshire Region."
Mr Armitage will focus particularly on SYIF’s equity-linked packages where the Fund takes a minority stake in the business - with investments ranging from £50k to £1m. They are intended for new or existing businesses with potential for rapid expansion who may have insufficient security to raise all the finance they need from a conventional source, such as a bank, or are too small to attract traditional levels of venture capital.
Tony Goulbourn, Chief Executive of South Yorkshire Investment Fund Ltd, said: "We are delighted that someone as experienced as Peter has joined our team. We look forward to a happy and successful association with him."
In his spare time Mr Armitage winds down with an array of exciting and adventurous hobbies. As a mountaineer he has climbed the Matterhorn and Mont Blanc and has visited what he describes as the ‘awesome’ Mount Everest.
If that isn’t enough he has indulged in parachuting, potholing and scuba diving and when he gets a spare five minutes he rides a mountain bike and puts his feet up to watch rugby union.
Born in Huddersfield Mr Armitage now lives in Holmfirth and is married with two daughters.
