About South Yorkshire Investment Fund
SYIF Chief Executive Tony Goulbourn (left) and SYIF Chairman David Moody (right), with SYIF staff, holding the Putting the Customer First® quality assurance award.
South Yorkshire Investment Fund provided seedcorn, loan and equity linked investments, ranging from £15k to £2.5m, specifically to help small and medium businesses meet the gaps in funding they need for development or acquisitions.
Created as part of the Objective 1 programme, the Fund was a private and public sector business finance provider. The European Regional Development Fund and Yorkshire Forward are investors in the Fund.
More than 9,100 jobs were created and safeguarded in the region due to the support provided by South Yorkshire Investment Fund (SYIF).
The Fund came to an end after nine years of investments in South Yorkshire businesses, with the new regional wide Finance Yorkshire taking on responsibility for making money available to companies.
From 2001 to 2010, SYIF made a real impact on the economy in South Yorkshire, supporting a wide range of sectors, from manufacturing to creative and digital, environmental to health.
£60million including money with management was invested into businesses to help them meet the funding gap for growth and development.
More than 2,500 businesses received assistance from SYIF – a thousand more than the target set at the outset – helping to create and safeguard 9,132 jobs.
The Fund provided three main products, structured to back businesses through critical stages of growth:
Almost all sectors were eligible (some restrictions apply) and we will look at capital expenditure, working capital, start-ups, expansions, MBOs & MBIs, acquisitions, mergers and turnarounds.
SYIF often worked alongside other finance providers such as banks, and other lenders and can help put together a finance package to meet your needs.
To give clients a better success rate our Money with Management programme provided management support through a Mentorbank of highly qualified and experienced business people that act as mentors and advisers to clients.
Our South Yorkshire Business Angel Network was a regional introduction service run by Yorkshire Association of Business Angels. The network provides a unique regional forum, bringing together Business Angels with finance and business expertise and entrepreneurs with new business ideas.
